Prepare Markdown for a stable PDF
A PDF is easiest to read when the source has a clear outline. Use one top-level heading for the document title, then organize major topics under second-level headings. Keep paragraphs focused and separate them with blank lines. This gives the PDF generator predictable blocks and makes the preview easier to compare with the source before export.
Use lists for steps, requirements, and grouped items instead of manually typing bullets. Keep table columns consistent and avoid using a table as a page-layout grid. Fenced code blocks are easier to scan than long inline snippets. If a document will be printed, write link labels that still make sense when the reader cannot click them immediately.
Very large or deeply nested Markdown can be harder to review. Break a long report into meaningful sections, remove draft-only notes, and check that headings are not orphaned at the bottom of a page. The exporter can make sensible page decisions, but it cannot infer the business importance of a section or replace an editorial review.
What the A4 export is designed to preserve
The generated document uses A4 portrait pages with fixed margins and a readable default type scale. Headings receive distinct levels, paragraphs retain spacing, and emphasis, links, lists, quotes, code, and horizontal rules are represented as native PDF content. Simple tables include a header row and repeat that header when a table continues across pages, which helps readers understand rows in a printed copy.
Metadata identifies the document as created from Markdown in the browser, and page numbers appear in the footer. These details are useful for review packets, internal archives, and handoffs where the recipient needs to know what the file represents. They do not constitute a digital-signature system, records-retention policy, or proof that the content was approved.
The bundled font covers Simplified Chinese and common Latin text. If your source contains unusual glyphs, emoji, right-to-left writing, complex scripts, or uncommon CJK extensions, inspect the rendered pages rather than relying only on text extraction. A missing glyph or unexpected wrap is a signal to revise the source or finish the document in a specialized publishing tool.

Preview and inspect before you share
Treat the live preview as a structural checklist, not as a guarantee that every PDF reader will display the same page breaks. Look for headings that sit too close to the following text, tables that become difficult to scan, code lines that wrap unexpectedly, and links whose labels do not tell the reader where they lead. Make corrections in Markdown and run the preview again before downloading a new revision.
Open the downloaded file in the application your recipient is likely to use. Scroll through every page of a short document and sample the beginning, middle, and end of a longer one. Confirm that Chinese characters and other important glyphs are visible, page numbers are present, and no footer overlaps body content. A PDF can be technically valid while still needing editorial or visual correction.
If the file is intended for printing, test a physical or print-preview copy when the paper size matters. Printers may apply their own scaling or unprintable margins. If it is intended for screen reading, check zoom behavior, selectable text, link targets, and the order in which headings and paragraphs can be read. The converter creates a practical document, not a certification of every downstream viewing environment.
Known limitations and safer alternatives
Images are omitted from the PDF so the browser does not fetch remote resources during export. If imagery is essential, add it later in a trusted desktop publishing workflow or choose a tool that explicitly supports image embedding. Do not assume that a Markdown image URL will be captured simply because it appears in a source file.
The exporter does not promise browser-HTML styling, custom CSS, JavaScript behavior, interactive widgets, Mermaid diagrams, tracked changes, comments, or exact Word template reproduction. Advanced layout needs such as columns, floating objects, cover-page art, and branded headers may require a dedicated PDF or office application. Theprivacy policy should be the reference point when a deliverable depends on a specific structure.
A PDF is also not automatically accessible, legally complete, or ready for regulated use. Accessibility depends on the source structure, the generated reading order, language metadata, contrast, and any additional tagging or remediation required by your context. Perform the checks required by your organization instead of treating a successful download as the end of the process.
Troubleshoot an export that does not look right
If conversion fails, start by loading the example content. If the example exports, narrow your own source to the smallest section that reproduces the issue. Look for malformed table separators, unclosed code fences, unusual HTML fragments, or characters that your chosen font may not contain. Simplifying one block at a time makes the cause easier to identify than repeatedly exporting a large document unchanged.
A Markdown file must use the supported .md or .markdown extension and remain within the 10 MB boundary. You can paste its contents directly when you are unsure whether a file was saved with the correct extension. Keep a backup of the original source before testing edits, especially when the PDF is part of an approval or publication workflow.
If only one section wraps differently, revise the source rather than inserting repeated spaces or manual line breaks. Use shorter headings, simpler table cells, or a separate subsection where that improves reading order. For a fixed design with precise positioning, export the structured content here first, then apply the final layout in the tool required by your organization.
Privacy when creating a PDF in the browser
The Markdown source is read in the current browser session and passed to the local PDF generator. The route does not require an account or send the document to a conversion API. This can reduce exposure when you are preparing internal notes, source code, customer summaries, or drafts that should stay on your device during an ordinary export.
Local processing does not control your device's downloads, backups, browser history, extensions, screenshots, or synchronized folders. A generated PDF may be copied by those systems according to their settings. Review your own storage and retention policies, and remove secrets or unnecessary personal data before creating a shareable artifact.
Keep the Markdown source in approved storage because this tool is not a recovery service. If you need a web document instead, use Markdown to HTML; if you need to bring an existing PDF or office workflow back into editable Markdown, use the appropriate source conversion route and review each boundary in theprivacy policy.
